OneSteel was created in August 2007 by combining eight historically-diverse yet related businesses to form a vertically-integrated company that markets more than 40,000 products to over 30,000 customers. They have more than 40 operating facilities in New Zealand, Asia and the Pacific that encompass major manufacturing sites and recycling locations.
They’re … data consultants were engaged to assist OneSteel in a very ambitious and challenging, short-term evaluation of the Infor Network Designer tool while simultaneously modelling and testing various scenarios for the Steel distribution business. This was performed by undertaking about 25 days work over a 2-3 month period. Whilst high level analysis was originally proposed, we were able to quickly verify, load and model the required scenarios at sufficient levels of detail so that the Infor tool could provide great insight into the potential cost benefits of the different transport scenarios.
Further evaluation of the solution is now (Dec 2008) being undertaken by OneSteel to determine how their future supply chain may be modfied to take advantage of the various findings from the study.
By obtaining and rapidly massaging, loading and analysing the data initially outside and then within the Infor software platform, "they're .. data consultants" were able to provide the results both within budget and inside the tight timeframe.Links
